Head Lights: buying notes

Headlights are tied to the body shape and the lighting package fitted at the factory. One model might use a halogen reflector on the base grade, a projector on the middle grade and full LED on the top grade, and a facelift usually changes the shape altogether.

Your checklist

• Build month from the build or compliance plate, not the rego year
• Halogen, HID or LED, and projector or reflector
• Built-in daytime running light strip or not
• Pre-facelift or facelift shape
• Left or right hand side

Fitting notes

Keep to the lamp type your car was built with. Swapping halogen for a factory LED or HID lamp normally needs a different plug and levelling parts, and putting HID globes into a halogen headlight is not roadworthy in Australia. Most listings are the housing only, so reuse your globes unless the listing includes them.

Which side is which: on vehicles delivered new in Australia, the right hand side is the driver’s side and the left hand side is the passenger side.
