Tail Lights: buying notes

Many cars split each rear light into an outer lamp on the body and an inner lamp on the boot lid or tailgate, and each has its own listing. Sedan, hatch and wagon versions of one model almost never share tail lights.

Your checklist

• Outer body lamp, or inner boot lid or tailgate lamp
• Sedan, hatch, wagon, ute or van body
• Globe or LED
• Series and build month, including facelifts
• Left or right hand side

Fitting notes

Later builds often move to LED where early builds use globes, and a facelift can change the lens pattern without changing the shape. Tail lights usually fix with two to four nuts reached from inside the boot. If the listing has no globes or holder, reuse yours.

Which side is which: on vehicles delivered new in Australia, the right hand side is the driver’s side and the left hand side is the passenger side.
